- Questions with Answers
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
10
Q: Do I need to load ANSI.SYS ?
A: No, Wildcat! handles ANSI internally for the local user. Remotely
it's up to the users terminal program to handle. Some door programs,
however, don't have a built in ANSI.SYS driver, and won't display
correctly on the Sysop's side without ANSI.SYS being loaded.
11
Q: How should I load SHARE.EXE ?
A: SHARE.EXE should be loaded in your Autoexec.bat:
C:\DOS\SHARE.EXE
Note SHARE.EXE should never be loaded in High Memory or as an
INSTALL in your Config.sys.
12
Q: Why do I need to change the FILES = statement in the Config.sys ?
A: The FILES = statement in the Config.sys controls the total number
of files that can be open on the machine at the same time. DOS as
a default only allows 10 files to be open, by increase this we are
able to open all the files Wildcat! requires to run.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Wildcat!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
100
Q: Users can not log in, they get kicked off the system.
A: Look at your activity log(Node 1 would be :
C:\wildcat\activity.1)
Wildcat! will always log why a user is kicked off the system.
101
Q: How does FIDOENTER.BAT work ?
A: FIDOENTER.BAT is ran when a user attempts to enter a message in
a conference that you have setup as a FIDO Netmail conference
in Makewild.
102
Q: VIEWCOMP.BAT Does not display/work ?
A: VIEWCOMP.BAT is is ran when a users selects to View a Compressed
file. Examples of VIEWCOMP.BAT :
1) VZ %1 > VIEWCOMP.DAT
You need to make sure VZ.EXE is in your DOS search path.
Example in your Autoexec.bat:
PATH = C:\DOS;C:\;C:\WILDCAT
VZ.EXE is installed in your WILDCAT directory therefor this
should work.
2) C:\WILDCAT\VZ %1 > VIEWCOMP.DAT
^^^^^^^^^^ This would the directory where VZ.EXE is located.
103
Q: Comment to SYSOP goes to John Doe or never shows up to SYSOP ?
A: In Makewild under Conference Areas you have a field labeled
"Conference SYSOP" this needs to be changed to the SYSOP's Name.
104
Q: Conference currently unavailable...
A: wcPACK or wcPACKX left #.LCK files in your MSGLOCK Directory.
Simply delete all files in the MSGLOCK Directory.
105
Q: How do you select ANSI File Lister
A: This is simply an User Option under [Y]ours Setting, File Display.
106
Q: Can not see new or old file area(s) I just Added.
A: 1) Check The File area(s) and Make Sure it has Conference Access
to all the Conference(s) you want to see the new file area(s) in.
2) You must give both the Security Profile access (including Sysop)
to the file areas.
107
Q: I get Lock Retries as soon as I run WILDCAT.EXE.
A: Make sure your loading DOS Share in LOW MEMORY.
108
Q: How do I setup Drop to Dos?
A: Download DOORWAY.ZIP from the MSI HQ BBS (805-873-2400). Unzip it
and copy DOORWAY.EXE to the WILDCAT directory. Create a batch file
named DROPDOS.BAT in the BATCH directory. It should contain the
following:
C:\DOORWAY\DOORWAY SYS /G:ON /V:B^U /B:MSZ /C:DOS
MAKEWILD, Menu Hooks, add a menu hook and set the fields as follows:
Menu description : Drop To Dos
Menu batch file : DROPDOS
Menu display file :
Menu multi user : N
Small DOOR.SYS : N
Use alias name : N
Set F3 Profile for SYSOP and select ALL Conferences in F4 Conference.
MAKEMENU, File Menu, highlight Drop to Dos and press 'Enter'. Cursor
down to Parameters and press F2. Select Drop to Dos and press 'Enter'.
Press F10 until you've exited Makemenu.
109
Q: How come RIP locks up after the user enters their password?
A: If the user has his user record set to ANSI or NOCOLOR as the display
type but, calls with a RIP emulation program like RIPTerm or QmodemPro
then WC first detects RIP, then switches to the users display type.
The solution is to set the Makewild - General Information - "RIP Mode
For Callers" to FORCED RIP.
110
Q: How do I extract DIZ/SDI on an upload?
A: Check for the FILEDESC.BAT file in your WILDCAT\BATCH directory.
This file will contain the following:
PKUNZIP %1 FILE_ID.DIZ DESC.SDI
You need to make sure PKZIP/PKUNZIP is in your DOS search path.
Example in your autoexec.bat:
PATH = C:\DOS;C:\;C:\WILDCAT
PKUNZIP could be in your WILDCAT Directory and would be considered
in your DOS Search Path.
111
Q: I can not get DOORTEST to work on my system ?
A: Because every door is different and there is no set standard for how
a door will interface with the BBS, we can't really assist in the
config of third party doors, but we can however walk you through
setting up doortest, the sample door program we include.
Setting up DOORTEST:
1. Go into MAKEWILD, go to doors and add an item called DOORTEST.
Make the batch file name DT. Leave all other fields alone for
the time being.
2. Exit makewild and go to your batch directory. Create DT.BAT using
any standard text editor. Contents of the batch file:
CD\WILDCAT
DOORTEST DOORTEST.CFG
That's it. The only additions may be a drive letter if you're
running Wildcat! on a different drive than C.
3. Change to your Wildcat! directory and edit DOORTEST.CFG, again
with any standard editor. Contents of DOORTEST.CFG:
C:\WILDCAT\WCWORK\NODE1\DOOR.SYS
<NAME OF YOUR BBS>
The only change would be to the drive letter, again if you are
running from something other than c:.
4. Log into the board and select the doors menu and enter the number
of the door you defined as DOORTEST.
112
Q: Get an Exec error: Unable to allocate swap space when running a door?
A: Check your Wildcat! Home Directory (Default C:\WILDCAT) and make sure
a swap file does not exists. Type:
DIR Wildcat.* /a
If Wildcat.# (# being any number from 0 to 250) exists in the
directory you need to delete the file to correct your problem. You
might have to change the attributes on the file with ATTRIB from dos
to actually delete Wildcat.#. For more information on ATTRIB type:
HELP ATTRIB
113
Q: I get a 9901-9903 errors ?
A: Increase your File handles in your CONFIG.SYS File.
One node of Wildcat! Requires 40 files each node after that would
take 20-25 more file handles. Example:
File Handles need for 4 Node = ((4 - 1) * 20 ) + 40
Config.sys
FILES = 100
114
Q: I get an error 9905 or when I try to Download the file aborts ?
A: Your running our of Memory. Wildcat! requires 400-425k on memory to
operate correctly.
1) Type MEM from DOS and make sure you have a "Largest executable
program size" of 400k.
2) Check Makewild 'General Information - Hardware and memory
Make sure Extra Memory fro Overlay is set to 0k. If you have it
set to say 50k your making Wildcat! require a min. of 450k to run.
3) Check Makewild 'General Information - Hardware and memory
Make sure Scroll back Memory is set to 5k. If you have it set
to say 20k your making Wildcat! require a min. of 420k to run.
4) If your running on DesqView (DV) make sure your Memory Size for
your Wildcat! windows are set to 425k.
115
Q: Can I view a GIF/PIC file without having to download it?
A: No, Wildcat! will only display .BBS (Wildcat! @ Codes), .SCR (ANSI
Files), and .RIP (Remote Image Protocol, a form of EGA Graphics and
Mouse Support over the modem which was devolped by TeleGraphix) files.
116
Q: My modem takes a long time to reset/respond, up to 10 times ?
A: Wildcat! is waiting to get a response back from your modem of "OK"
Currently this is not being receive therefor Wildcat! tries 5 times
to send the modem Reint. String and 5 times to send the modem Init.
String.
117
Q: How come my modem tries to dial out when I logon locally ?
A: Wildcat! is placing your modem off-hook so a user gets a busy
signal when calling, instead of RING with no answer.
118
Q: F9(Upgrade key) does not work from the console(local machine) ?
A: Two issuse to look at in the sitution:
a) Check Makewild, System Security...
If the current user does not have sysop access then the
line "Allow local upgrade for non sysops" needs to be set
as "Y".
b) Make sure "Console security type" is set to either "None" or
"Password".
119
Q: My users can not [Q]uit to the Main Menu ?
A: Two main things to check here:
a) Does your user's security profile, in makewild
have access to the "goto menu" command under
Menu Access(F5) ?
b) In MakeMenu highlight the "Main Menu" and press enter
from that point you will have the option of F9 for
Menu access, make the user's security profile has
access to "Main Menu".
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
- wcGATE
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
200
Q: My internet mail seems to be working but no messages are going out.
A: MAKEGATE - Send Non-local Mail is set to No set it to Yes
201
Q: I just entered a msg, then exported my mail and nothing is found ?
A: Check your Message Pointer File(MPF) for the Host your exporting.
Example for say HOLONET would be HOLONET.MPF:
1,25
790,40
791,11540
^|^,^^^^^ The Second number would the High Message pointer
|
The First number would be the conference number
So if you enter a message in Conference 1 and the message number was
19 would have a problem. Currently the next time wcGATE runs will
start exporting message above 25 only, so 19 would never be seen
even though you just entered it.
What causes this problem ? This usually comes from running wcPACK
renumber and not resetting your Message Pointer File (MPF) with
wcGATE. How do you correct this problem ? Run wcGATE RESET for your
Host. Example:
wcGATE RESET UUCP H:HOLONET
* Remember you need to do this RESET everytime you Renumber a
conference that the HOST uses.
202
Q: How do I take the phone off-hook when importing/exporting my mail?
A: In your UUCP.BAT file you can send the command:
ECHO ATH0 >COM1:
This would take the modem off-hook. Also with wcGate 4.10 it now
comes with FXAT.EXE which is program that will allow you to send
modem command to the modem. To use FXAT.EXE you would use:
FXAT ATH0 or FXAT -H
To get more information how FXAT.EXE works just read the README.WCG
text file that is included in your WILDCAT home directory.
203
Q: My downline nodes get a "Timeout waiting for DLE" when calling me ?
A: The problem is that the locked DTE baud rate at which Wildcat is using
the locked DTE baud rate that UUCICO is using are different. You must
set the DTE baud rate in the FXUUCP.CFG file to be the same rate as you
have in Makewild in the modem setting.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
- wcCODE
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
300
Q: How do you add wcCODE applications to Wildcat! so users can run them ?
A: wcCODE programs are added to your menus through MAKEMENU. In MAKEMENU
you would add a key that would call the program with a COMMAND TYPE
of "Run wcCODE program" and the parameters will be the name of the
WCX file. Note that the users must have the command type select for
their security profile in MAKEWILD.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
- wcPRO
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
400
Q: How do I run a Command File as an event ?
A: Once you've created you Command file, say EVENT.PRO, all you need to
do is create a batch file :
c:
cd \wildcat
wcpro event
Then set Wildcat! up to run an Event using a batch file.
